May 06, 2009 (newstodate): A leading Swedish freight forwarder sees little hope for Sweden's air cargo market to recover in 2009.
-The market has dipped very low, and even if the decline may have culminated I do not see any signs of even a slight recovery on the horizon, says Gert Nilsson, DHL Global Forwarding Sweden airfreight manager Sweden.
-We are now approaching the traditionally slack summer season, so if a recovery should develop in 2009, it would rather be from the autumn. But I doubt that, and do not really see any positive prospects for the whole of the year.
-Most of Sweden's strong manufacturing companies have run into heavy problems, and this includes not only SAAB and Volvo in the automotive industry, but also many others. Actually, the only industrial segment that has continued to develop is the health and pharmaceutical sector, but it cannot compensate for the general downturn by 20-30 percent in volumes and transactions, says Mr Nilsson.
