May 11, 2009 (newstodate): With cargo growth still in the red, the Swedish Gothenburg Landvetter Airport is seeing the trend steadily improving by the end of this year's Q1.
While total cargo volumes were down 33 percent, y-o-y, in January 2009, and by 32 percent in February, the airport reports a decline by 15 percent "only" in March, 2009, to 3,909 tonnes.
By the end of Q1 the airport's accumulated negative growth therefore shrank to 26 percent, corresponding to a total of 9,213 tonnes of cargo.
The relative improvement is driven by the airport's export figures that have moved from minus 28 percent in January to minus seven percent in March, warranting for a steady recovery in 2009.
Imports are less promising, though, down 37 percent in January, 41 percent in February, and still down 23 percent in March, 2009, compared to last year.
