May 26, 2009 (newstodate): Sweden's Cargo Center, located at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, notes a deep decrease in the country's airfreight volumes in 2009.
-Import volumes are down about 50 percent, and export volumes have decreased by about 20 percent, so all in all total volumes are down 30-35 percent, year-on-year, says Lars Keding, Cargo Center managing director.
-Having said that, we have indications that the situation has leveled out as we do not see a continued negative growth trend.
-Looking forward we will probably not see any improvement in the situation in the months immediately ahead as most industrial enterprises will usually shut down during the summer holiday season. Our next indication will not emerge clearly until early autumn, says Mr Keding.
In 2008 Cargo Center handled a total of 80,000 tonnes of cargo which was a drop by six percent compared to the preceding year. And a decline was seen already from mid-year 2008, continuing into 2009.
