May 08, 2009 (newstodate): Serbia has axed a number of infrastructure projects due to the current economic crisis - among them the planned construction of a new passenger terminal at Zagreb Airport.
The new terminal was planned to enable the handling of 3.3 mio passengers annually, equipped with 12 jet bridges and raising the airport to latest world standards.
In 2008 the airport handled two mio passengers in the existing terminal, built to a capacity of 1.5 mio passengers.
Construction of the new terminal was expected to start in 2009 and be completed by 2012, after which time the existing old terminal would be used for low-cost operators.
