May 11, 2009 (newstodate): The Serbian parliament will finally ratify the Open Skies Treaty with EU at a forthcoming meeting, sources say.
The treaty was signed by Serbia and EU in 2006 and will only take effect after its final ratification by Serbia.
Under the treaty all current limits in air traffic between Serbia and EU member states will be lifted, allowing for free competition and the entry of new EU carriers, including notably low-cost operators into the Serbian market.
Similarly, the national carrier JAT can operate without restrictions into destinations in the EU markets.
