May 25, 2009 (newstodate): In stark contrast to other airports in the Baltic region, Latvia's Riga Airport performed well in 2009, showing positive growth through January-April.
In the period, Riga Airport handled a total of 2,779 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 17.4 percent, y-o-y.
The totals include 1,078 tonnes of exports and 1,702 tonnes of imports.
Positive growth was reached in all months in 2009, including 19.6 percent in January, 7.7 percent in February, 30.2 percent in March, and 13.4 percent in April, 2009.
Through the first four months, the Latvian carrier airBaltic dominated the list with a total of 1,809 tonnes, followed by European Air Transport, operating for DHL, with 210 tonnes.
CSA lifted 129 tonnes, Lufthansa 128 tonnes, while Aeroflot and Sprint Air each contributed 94 tonnes of cargo.
