May 19, 2009 (newstodate): The Serb carrier JAT has now announced plans for its future aircraft fleet modernisation.
On the table are plans for the acquisition in 2010 of four ATR72-500 aircraft to replace the five less cost-efficient ATR72-200 currently in the fleet.
JAT will also acquire three Boeing 737-700 aircraft to replace its single Boeing 737-200 and possibly some of its 10 Boeing 737-300 aircraft.
Finally, JAT intends to buy up to four regional aircraft, yet unspecified.
Based on the fleet modernisation financed by the Serb state, a new effort may be attempted to privatize the carrier following on the aborted tender in 2008 when no bidder eventually turned out.
