May 05, 2009 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic is in discussions over its future status as the current membership period of the SAS Group expires in November 2009.
airBaltic was established on 28 August 28, 1995, as a JV venture between SAS and the Latvian state, and SAS held 49 percent of the stake until a management buy-out taking effect from the start of this year.
-We are now in the process of discussing how to proceed after November 2009, says Bertolt Flick, airBaltic president and CEO.
-One major asset of the SAS Group membership is the participation in SAS' mileage program. I expect, however, that we will eventually establish our own program.
