MAy 04, 2009 (newstodate): Baltia Air Lines has now received its Frequency Allocation from the U.S. Department of Transportation for its planned weekly service between New York and St Petersburg, Russia.
The allocation will allow the airline to carry passengers, cargo and mail between the two destinations.
The company has been airing its intentions since 1989, and received its operational license in 1991, but despite recurring confirmations that intentions were still intact, little progress was seen until 2008 when the carrier applied for its allocation from DOT.
The airline plans to offer once-weekly services during the first four to six weeks, later increasing to three weekly services and, after the first six months, to five to seven weekly flights.
In the longer-term visions are also flights from New York to Moscow, Kiev, Minsk, Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn.
No launch date has, however, yet been published.
