May 07, 2009 (newstodate): Good news from Finnair Cargo are that loads on the carrier's leisure flights increased by 218.5 percent, y-o-y, to 433.2 tonnes in January-April 2009.
This is, however, also where good news end: the carrier noted a drop by 20.6 percent in total cargo carried, to 27,011 tonnes in the period.
And excepting the insignificant leisure volumes, all segments were in the red, with the crucial Asian loads down 22.7 percent, y-o-y, to 17,122 tonnes.
Loads on European traffic fell 16.6 percent, on North America 11 percent, on domestic routes 4.9 percent, and on scheduled cargo charters 59.8 percent.
April was no exception, with total loads down 23.2 percent to 6,783 tonnes, led by a fall by 27.3 percent in the Asian traffic to 4,411 tonnes.
Cargo load factors were also down by 11.5 percentage-points to 49.7 during January-April, and by 11.8 percentage-points to 56.8 in April, with the improvement in April mainly due to reductions in capacity.
