May 22, 2009 (newstodate): Latest statistics from Estonias Tallinn Airport show a remarkable decrease in cargo volumes.
Total volumes were down no less than 82 percent in April, to 704 tonnes.
While airfreight exports were down 34.5 percent to 82 tonnes, the decrease in airfreight imports was a staggering 85.3 percent, to 546 tonnes.
The drastic fall is probably due to temporary systems communication problems with Russian customs as the airports airfreight imports are mainly shipments from the Far East destined for Russia and transferred through Tallinn.
In January-April 2009 the airport handled a total of 6,418 tonnes of cargo and mail, down 50 percent y-o-y.
