May 04, 2009 (newstodate): New contestants are entering the scene aiming at filling the void in Lithuania's air traffic after the collapse of flyLAL in January, 2009.
The Swedish carrier Skyways is already in talks with Lithuanian authorities over the launch of flights between Vilnius and Stockholm, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Berlin.
Another party, Lithuania's Star Team Group is now also entering discussions with the country's authorities over launching a series of new flights from Vilnius Airport to yet-unannounced destinations in Europe.
In the meantime, neighboring country's airBaltic is seeing success with building up its transfer traffic at Riga Airport that has surpassed both Estonia's Tallinn Airport and Lithuania's Vilnius Airport in passenger volumes, reaching 3.7 mio in 2008 which is more than the other two Baltic airports put together.
