May 26, 2009 (newstodate): Nagorno-Karabagh's Stepanakert Airport will reportedly be opened for commercial traffic from October, 2010.
The preparatory work for the reconstruction of the airport has now been completed, used equipment from the Armenian airports of Stepanavan and Gyumri will be now installed, and the process is moving ahead as planned, sources say.
Stepanakert Airport, in the disputed Nagorno-Karabagh region under de-facto Armenian control since the war with Azerbaijan in the 90ies, has been inoperative ever since, but plans are to reopen it with flights from Yerevan, Armenia.
Earlier plans called for the opening of the airport in the summer of 2009, already.
