May 27, 2009 (newstodate): Danish forwarders still see little, if any, light at the end of the tunnel, and fears are that the coming summer season will bog the freight forwarding business further down.
-We have noted that there are fewer and fewer tenders by shippers for major airfreight contracts, and even if the number of transactions may remain fairly stable, shipments get smaller ans smaller, says one Danish airfreight forwarder.
-We are now awaiting the coming summer season with some fears that it will hardly bring any recovery in the business. In the recent years, most manufacturing and exporting companies kept their businesses running at full force through the summer to be able to keep up with orders, but indications are that more and more companies will now close down during the summer season to save on costs and have staff take vacations in the hope that the autumn will bring more demand in the markets.
-If this holds true, the freight forwarders will be suffering even more, and we do not really see any sign of relief in 2009, he says.
