May 18, 2009 (newstodate): The Armenian carrier Armavia is slated to receive its first two Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft by early 2010, becoming the first commercial operator of the new regional aircraft.
In July, 2009, two Superjets will relocate to Armenia for flights test in the country's mountainous environment.
Armavia ordered two Superjet aircraft for delivery from 2008, but the program has been delayed repeatedly.
The Superjet 100 is priced around USD 28 mio and may become a competitor to western regional aircraft, also backed by repeated Russian state financial support including a further USD 210 mio injection in 2009.
Armavia has options for another two Superjet 100 aircraft that has so far landed 189 firm orders and options.
