Apr 15, 2009 (newstodate): The new Swedish airline, Tor Air, based at Gothenburg Landvetter Airport, is satisfied with its performance in this first phase of operations.
The carrier launched operations with a leased Boeing 737-400 shortly before Christmas 2008, aiming at serving the ad-hoc market with aircraft capacity.
-Our aircraft is now fully engaged with ad-hoc operations for a number of customers including Norwegian, Cimber Sterling and Viking Airlines, says Torbjorn Winsell, Tor Air CEO.
-We based our business concept on the Boeing 737 aircraft, rather than the MD-80 that is being retired from service by most airlines and probably does not offer the range and economy demanded by the market today.
-In our plans now is the addition of a second aircraft from the start of the winter season, and this will probably be a Boeing 737 New Generation aircraft with capacity to operates routes from Swedish airports to holiday destinations including the Canary Islands.
-We are currently in negotiations with aircraft leasing companies and will reach a decision by this autumn, says Mr Winsell.
