Apr 08, 2009 (newstodate): From April 7, 2009, the Russian carrier KD Avia, based at Kaliningrad, has suspended all flights.
The debt-ridden airline that had to apply for state help already in December last year was forced to stop operations as the bank that is currently in charge of its business has reportedly denied further investments.
The privately-owned carrier has built up a network comprising routes from Kaliningrad to London, Paris, Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover, Dusseldorf, Munich, Tel Aviv, Barcelona, Prague, Rome, Milan, Vienna, Kiev, Odessa, Moscow, St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Ufa, Nizhniy Novgorod, Omsk, Samara, Perm, Kazan, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, and Astana.
The carrier has ordered up to 50 Airbus A320 to fully replace the ageing Boeing 737 fleet by 2012, and planned to have a total of 60 aircraft by 2016.
