Apr 14, 2009 (newstodate): Montenegro Airlines, based at Podgorica Airport, has embarbed on a process to privatise its ownership.
So far no deadlines have been announced for the formal opening of a tender, but the airline will put one-third of the stakes up for sale to a foreign partner to generate financial means to support and develop the airline, sources say.
Among the parties interested in the process is the Israeli carrier El Al that is reportedly already deeply in talks with Montenegro Airlines.
Adria Aieways is also known to be in contact with Montenegro Airlines, and a decision on sale of shares in the Montenegrine carrier is expected to be made before the end of 2009.
Montenegro Airlines urrently operates only two Embraer 195 and four Fokker 100 aircraft and will need fresh cash to build up its fleet and route network.
