Apr 17, 2009 (newstodate): Pending the outcome of on-going negotiations, the Swedish regional carrier Skyways may soon launch new air services at Lithuania's Vilnius Airport.
-We are currently talking to the authorities involved, and many issues still remain to be solved. But given a positive outcome, Skyways plans to launch services between Vilnius and Stockholm, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Berlin, says Peter Browall, Skyways CEO.
-Hopes are that negotiations may be completed by the end of next week, and if everything falls into place flights will start from the first half of May, 2009.
-According to the preliminary schedule, Skyways will operate to Vilnius twice daily from Stockholm Arlanda, once daily from Copenhagen, twice daily from Amsterdam, and once weekly from Berlin.
-Plans are to operate the routes from Stockholm and Copenhagen with Fokker 50 aircraft, and from Amsterdam and Berlin with a Fokker 100 that will be lased for the specific purpose.
-We are of course in the very early stage of project, so the planned services will be launched with Skyways as the sole operator. If plans materialise and the routes prove to be sustainable, other partners may become involved as well, says Mr Browall.
