APR 28, 2009 (newstodate): The Norwegian export air cargo market seems to be less affected by the current global downturn in volumes.
-Seen from our books, we have of course experienced a decline in volumes during the last months, but not more than, say, 10-15 percen. Business has really not been that bad, says Hans-Petter Mohn, Nor-Cargo export airfreight manager.
-Our traffic is primarily consisting of general cargo, especially shipments relating to the ships building industries, and the bulk of our traffic is destined for South Korea and other major ship building centres.
-We rely on cooperation with several air carriers with capacity for Kora, and while we of course use Korean Air Cargo's freighter services at Oslo Gardermoen from time to time, this is not our prime partner as this service is first of all dedicated to the Norwegian seafood exports that we are not involved in.
-Rates are down in the Norwegian market, too, but we are not seeing much effect from the fluctuating rates as we build our cooperation with exporters on longer-term contracts. And so far we have not experienced the trend, seen elsewhere, of frequent re-tendering of contracts, says Mr Mohn.
