Apr 06, 2009 (newstodate): On April 28, 2009, Lufthansa Consulting will arrange a special workshop in Moscow focussing on the tough challenges of the upcoming European Emissions Trading Scheme, ETS.
The target group for participation in the workshop comprises Russian and CIS carriers that operate flights to the European Union.
In 2008, the EU voted to include airline activities in the European Emissions Trading Scheme.
The scheme indicates that air carriers have to cover their CO2 emissions with emissions allowances for all flights to, from and within Europe.
Action is urgently needed, since already in August 2009 the airlines must submit a monitoring plan to the respective European authorities.
The submission of the monitoring plan is a prerequisite for airlines to be eligible for the free allocation of emissions allowances.
