APR 27, 2009 (newstodate): The EU commission has recently reconfirmed that cargo on "low-flying aircraft" is only accepted between airports that are actually operated by the airline that issues the AWB.
-Airfreight export shipments are to be transported on aircraft. When the carrier does not, however, have the capacity to fly out the shipments on its aircraft at one given airport, the shipments may be trucked to another airport for uplift by the carrier from there, says Jessi Johnsen, Danish CAA chief inspector security.
-What is at stake here is of course security. Only a certified cargo handling agent positioned airside within the airport fence can perform a security clearing of the shipment and issue the STX mark to certify that the shipment is ready for carriage.
-To make it even more precise, when an AWB marks e.g. "Copenhagen" as airport of departure, this means exactly Copenhagen Airport - not any other point within the Copenhagen city environment.
-We have had some cases when this was not perfectly understood by some parties in the industry, but there really should not be any room for doubts about this simple condition.
-We have made it part of our regular inspections to take out a few random cases for a closer scrutiny to check up on these details. It is not, however, any strengthened control, just a regular check-up, says Ms Johnsen.
