Apr 03, 2009 (newstodatre): Lithuania's Siauliai International Airport is now seeing traffic growth after years of decline.
A former Soviet airforce base, Siauliai International Airport doubled its cargo volumes from 1,000 tonnes in 2007 to 2,000 tonnes in 2008, and still expects volumes to grow in 2009.
Among the airlines using Siauliai in 2008 were Israeli carrier El AL, Russian carriers Poliot Cargo Airlines, and Tesis, the Ukrainian FR Aviation, Wind Rose and others.
In 2009 the airport will develop and expand its passenger service facilities to handle up to 200,000 passengers per year, hoping to attract low-cost traffic from Europe.
