Apr 08, 2009 (newstodate): Against all current negative trends, Latvia's Riga Airport is developing positively in the air cargo market.
During this year's Q1, the airport handled a total of 2,016 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 19 percent, y-o-y.
The increase was especially strong in March, 2009, when the airport handled 753 tonnes of cargo, up 30.2 percent y-o-y.
The growth is driven by the Latvian carrier's increasing transfer traffic via Riga Airport to and from Lithuania where air services have dropped significantly after the closure of flyLAL from January 17, 2009.
