Apr 15, 2009 (newstodate): The Finnish partner in the project launching the Korean Air Cargo freigher service at Sweden's Luleaa Kallax Airport is moving ahead with marketing plans in Finland.
-So far we are still at an early stage, and we have not yet completed the basis for launching marketing and sales of the freighter capacity in the Finnish market, says Rolf Kuula, Kalottspedition managing director.
-Needless to day, Finnair is a strong competitor, offering capacity on many direct flights between Finland and destinations in the Far East. They provide, however, only belly capacity on passenger aircraft, and the new Korean Air Cargo product builds on freighter maindeck capacity which would be a novelty in this market.
-We are meeting in Luleaa next week to exchange information and finalise details, and after that we will be in a position to approach the Finnish market with sales prospects.
-I expect export potentials in this market to mainly comprise shipments of industrial machinery and spare parts, and shipments from the electronic and communication industries in Finland.
-I would also expect potentials for air cargo imports to Finland by this new freighter service to be greater than potentials for air cargo exports where Finnair Cargo remains a dominating player, says Mr Kuula.
Kalottspedition is primarily providing cargo trucking services but will also take on responsibility for marketing and selling capacity on the Kallax freighter in the Finnish market.
Kallax Cargo is owned by five transport and logistics partners in Sweden, Norway, and Finland: Meyership AS, Norway, Holm Shipping AS, Norway, Wiiks Transport AS, Norway, Kalles Bud och Transport AB, Sweden, and Kalottspedition OY, Finland, alongside the initial Swedish owners NCC, Norrporten och Luleaa County.
