Apr 15, 2009 (newstodate): Korean Air Cargo's freighter operation at Swedish airport Luleaa Kallax is gaining momentum.
Bookings of Norwegian shipments of fresh seafood for the Japanese and Asian markets are estimated to total some 60 tonnes on the first flight on April 21, 2009, after the Easter break, and the route will now be served weekly on a regular scheduled basis with the carrier's Boeing 747-400 freighter.
-We are seeing market demands increasing steadily, but of course it takes time to build up confidence in a new freighter route, says Jan Ahlquist, Lars Holm Shipping - one of the partners behind the intitiative.
-From the outset the focus is on exports from the northern parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland. But we are already now being approached by several Norwegian companies that inquire about imports to Kallax Airport from the Far East.
-We are, therefore, seeking solutions to meet these new inquiries, and adding Far Eastern imports to our export business would of course further consolidate the operations.
-Adding imports to the concept will require much preparation and further investigation, but the aircraft capacity is available and I have no doubts that we will meet the challenge, says Mr Ahlquist.
