Apr 22, 2009 (newstodate): Germany's Hamburg Airport had its share of the general decline in the air cargo industry in 2008.
The airport handled a total of 78,018 tonnes of cargo, down 7.6 percent, y-o-y.
The figure does not include air mail.
Had this been included, the decline would have been even steeper as Deutsche Post stopped its nigh-time postal flights between Hamburg and Frankfurt as of March 30, 2008, after more than 25 years of operation.
Flown air cargo, constituting about one-third of the total volume, rose by 3.7 percent, whilst trucked shipments accounting for the remainder, declined by 9.6 percent.
