Apr 06, 2009 (newstodate): Effective May 7, 2009, Kazakhstan's Astana Airport will get its first direct airlink with Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi-based carrier Etihad will operate the new route between Abu Dhabi and Astana with a weekly flight, using Airbus A319 aircraft.
Astana will become the second destination in Kazakhstan to be served by Etihad after the launch on December 2, 2008, of flights to Almaty.
Etihad has so far operated four weekly A319 rotations to Almaty, but this will be cut to three weekly flights as the new route to Astana is added.
