Apr 15, 2009 (newstodate): The old pasenger terminal at Bulgaria's Sofia Airport may be heading towards a new future.
The airport's new terminal, Terminal 2, was inaugurated on December 26, 2006, and the old termial was since relegated to serve the airport's low-cost and charter carriers.
Bulgaria Air has now approaced the airport authorities with a proposal to take over the operation of the old Terminal 1 under a concession agreement, or on a long-term leasing contract.
In 2008 a total of 600,000 passengers were handled at Terminal 1, and the volumes is expected to rise to 800,000 in 2009.
Sofia Airport handled a total of 3.23 mio passengers in 2008.
