Apr 03, 2009 (newstodate): The German, partly Russian-owned low-cost carrier Blue Wings has had its wings clipped by the German authorities.
Allegations leading to the revoking of the carrier's AOC are that there has been yet unspedified "business and financial problems" with the carrier that has therefore been banned from providing passenger or cargo services.
Blue Wings, based at Dusseldorf, operated a fleet of 10 Airbus A320 aircraft offering scheduled flights between Germany and Russia and charter flights to tourist destinations in Turkey and the Middle East.
Blue Wings is owned 49 percent by a Russian billionaire who also owns the Russian LCC Red Wings, based at Moscow Vnukovo Airport.
