MAr 31, 2009 (newstodate): Despite the general decline in world civil aviation, Vienna Airport retains its lead in number of routes to destinations in Eastern Europe in the coming airline summer schedules.
Vienna offers flights to no less than 44 destinations in Eastern Europe, against 38 at Frankfurt, 35 at Munich, 29 at Prague, 24 at Zurich, 22 at Budapest, and 17 at Milan - all according to AOG.
Like any other airport, Vienna Airport is however also seeing its passenger loads down in 2009.
In February 2009 the airport handled a total of 1,136,273 passengers, a fall by 16.5 percent, y-o-y.
And the volume of passengers flying to destinations in Europe dipped even further - down 19.7 percent, y-o-y.
