MAr 11, 2009 (newstodate): The Swedish cargo operator Nord-Flyg that received its first converted Q400 Freighter on January 16, 2009, is watching the market carefully before placing firm orders for more aircraft.
-Having just secured our first contract with the German air freight consolidator AFC for operation of the Q400 freighter, we are indeed happy to be positioned in a prospective market well ahead of competitors, with a salient asset for future development when growth returns to the market, says Ulf Darenius, Nord-Flyg CEO.
-We will, however, follow the trends closely before we finally decide to turn our LoI with SAS into a firm agreement for delivery of a second Bombardier Q400 for conversion to freighter version.
-We will at least wait for some weeks before a decision is made, but we are confident of the Q400 aircraft's future in the freigher market where its speed and capacity will open an entirely new segment, competing with jet aircraft on speed, and with other existing turboprop regional freighter aicraft on capacity, says Mr Darenius.
The LoI with SAS concerns delivery of a second A400 by March or April, 2009, and the parties have even negotiated the possible sale of a third Q400 aircraft for conversion.
