Mar 05, 2009 (newstodate): Russian carrier Region-Avia, based at Moscow Bykovo Airport, is planning to launch flights to Kirov.
The airline will operate flights between Kirov and Moscow with Embraer 120 aircraft that will make it possible to operate the rather long route profitably, in contrast to other operators with more fuel-demanding Soviet-built aircraft.
If the planned operations prove a succes, Region Avia will consider opening more route from Kirov to destinations including St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Samara, and other Russian cities.
The airline is now negotiating with Kirov regional authorities, aiming at a start by April, 2009.
In 2007, Region-Avia contracted Lufthansa Consulting to support development of its network strategy.
