Mar 03, 2009 (newstodate): Poland's Katowice International Airport is planning for continued expansion and development.
In the plans for 2009-2014 is the construction of a new cargo terminal, further expansion of the apron, and construction of a new 3,600 m runway up to ILS II standards.
The airport grew its passenger volumes by 21.6 percent, y-o-y, to 2.5 mio passengers in 2008, mainly driven by low-cost traffic, where WIZZ Air held 75 percent of the market.
Also in 2008 the airport handled a record-high total of 12,703 tonnes of cargo, a strong increase by 63 percent, y-o-y.
