Mar 10, 2009 (newstodate): As most other airports, Germany's Hamburg Airport is reporting declining cargo volumes in 2009.
According to the latest statistics provided, the airport handled a total of 4,712 tonnes of cargo in January, 2009, down 27.7 percent, y-o-y.
Imports dropped 20 percent to 2,401 tonnes, while exports declined even more by 28.9 percent to 2,310 tonnes.
Flown cargo was down 10 percent to 2,393 tonnes, while trucked cargo dropped 35.5 percent to 2,318 tonnes.
The airport's transfer cargo was lost from spring, 2008, when Emirates stopped using the airport on its route from Dubai to New York, since then operating only direct Hamburg-Dubai fligts.
Transfer cargo in January 2009 was only 0.9 tonnes, compared to 267 tonnes in January 2008.
