Mar 23, 2009 (newstodate): The projected US start-up carrier Baltia Airlines seems to be still on the move on the long road to first flight after more than 10 years of delays.
The carrier has reportedly acquired an ex-Japan Airlines Boeing 747-300 aircraft and has applied for DOT's license to operate a once-weekly rotation between New York and St Petersburg, Russia.
The aircraft will now be reconfigured to match American standards, and air cargo sales are said to play a crucial role in the carrier's quest for profitability.
So far no date for launch of services has been announced, awaiting the authorities' approval and US certification of the aircraft type that has so far not been operated by US companies.
