Mar 10, 2009 (newstodate): Plans are maturing for privatisation of the Kosovo Republic's Pristina International Airport, a top priority for the new state.
To prepare the process, Kosovo's government has contracted the Dutch consulting company Naco Innova after a tender to draw up plans for the airport's development and privatisation.
Kosovo, that proclaimed its independence from Serbia in February, 2008, puts great importance of the standard and future development of the airport that is considered crucial to its international image.
The govenment intends to retain part of the ownership in the airport, but is keen to attract foreign parties to invest in and manage the airport.
Pristina Internaiotnal Airport, with a 2,500 m runway, handled 1.3 mio passengers in 2008.
Existing facilities also include a 2,500 sq.m. cargo terminal, operating since December, 2002, with a daily capacity at 100 tonnes.
