MAr 06, 2009 (newstodate): Korean Air has allocated two freighter aircraft to Uzbekistan Airways.
The contract covering the Uzbek carrier's use of the freighter will run for five years and allow the two carriers to build up air cargo operations in Central Asia, based on the cooperation around Navoi Logistics Centre, a JV between Uzbekistan and Korea.
Hanjin, Korean Air's parent group, has also set up a JV with an Uzbek road feeder services provider, Central Asia Trans to provide ground transporation in Central Asia to and from Navoi International Airport.
In 2008 the two airlines agreed to jointly build an international logistics center at Navoi Airport and to set up freighter flights on the route between Incheon and Milano, Italy, via Navoi.
