Mar 16, 2009 (newstodate): In February 2005, Icelandair became the first European carrier to place an order with Boeing for delivery of the 787 Dreamliner, but the actual use of the aircraft, when delivered, is still undecided.
The Icelandair Group has ordered a total of four Dreamliners, one of which will be operated by the Czech Travel Services, while another has been dry-leased to Air Nuigini.
The first two Boeing 787 aircraft were due to arrive in 2010, with the next to follow by 2012, but Boeing has lately postponed these deliveries by some 28 months.
-No decision on the remaining two Boeing 787 aircraft has yet been made, says a company spokeswoman.
In 2008 the Icelandair Group also cancelled its order for new Airbus A330-200F aircraft to replace its five Boeing 757-200F.
-As for cargo aircraft, the emphasis remains on the Boeing 757 that will be our freighter during the next three to five years. But it is not impossible that a Boeing 767 freighter may be added to the fleet.
-In the current economic turmoil and the vicissitudes of the air cargo business, no decisions beyond three to five years will be taken, she says.
