Mar 16, 2009 (newstodate): Iceland's air cargo market is showing definite signs of recovery.
-Export air cargo is really booming again, and we expect a full recovery by the end of this year, says Arnar Bjarnason, TVG-Zimsen manager air division.
-What is perhaps even more promising is that import volumes are also again showing positive development. The last three months of 2008 were definitely very slow, but import volumes first started to catch up again in January, 2009, and February was even better.
-When looking at the situation statistically we must also not forget that the preceding years 2006-2008 were extraordinarily busy and perhaps less suited to serve as a realistic base scenario.
-We should rather compare with the years before the frantic boom, like 2002-2005, to set targets for Iceland's air cargo development. And if this is the base, we have high hopes for the situation to stabilise again in 2009. Of course, it all depends on the general global trends and the course of the current world economic problems.
-Iceland has seen economic ups and downs before, and we adjust quite easily to turns and twists, says Mr Bjarnason
