Mar 09, 2009 (newstodate): Cargo volumes are continuing their downward trend in the latest statistics from Finnair, reporting on February, 2009.
The decline in volumes reached 21 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 6,213 tonnes.
After the first two months of 2009, Finnair Cargo's volumes are thus down 20.9 percent, to 12,667 tonnes.
The carrier is first of all hit by a decline by its Asian volumes, down 23.3 percent, y-o-y, to 4,002 tonnes in February and down 23.2 percent in January-February to 7,881 tonnes.
The only significant positive growth is seen in the carrier's North Atlantic traffic where volumes grew by nine percent to 707 tonnes in February, and by 4.7 tonnes in January-February, to 1,031 tonnes, reflecting an increase in the frequency of flights to USA from Helsinki.
