MAr 31, 2009 (newstodate): Forwarders within EU are warned to heed to the regulations on airfreight trucking with consolidated shipments manifested by one joint document.
EU has always required these transports to depart from and arrive at an EU airport to benefit from a simplified customs procedure.
The procedure saves time and costs, compared to traditional customs clearance procedures.
But while the procedures remain unchanged, the EU Commission has now stressed that any breach or misuse of the requirements will be met by strict counter-measures including full customs claims and fines, even stretching back three years if violations are detected.
It is widely known that some off-airport agents may accept shipments that are not actually routed via the airport stated in the papers as airport of departure, instead trucking the shipments directly to the airport from where the actual flight will depart.
