Mar 27, 2009 (newstodate): The European Regional Development Fund is supporting the modernisation of five regional airports in Estonia.
The airports comprised by the modernisation program are Kuressaare, Kardla, Tartu, Kihnu and Ruhnu.
The airports are managed and operated by Tallinn Airport Ltd that also manages and operates the capital airport, Tallinn Airport.
At Kuressaare the project comprises an extention of the runway, while Kardla and Tartu airports will have new passenger facilities.
Plans are to turn Tartu Airport into an international airport from mid-September, 2009, after completion of a new passenger terminal.
