Mar 04, 2009 (newstodate): Troubled Estonian carrier Estonian Air will seek a future with fewer and smaller aircraft, and a reduced route network.
The carrier currently operates five Boeing 737 aircraft in addition to two SAAB 340 aircraft, but will divest itself of the Boeing aircraft to take instead three smaller Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft later this spring.
The route network will be focussed on flights to fewer but more profitable destinations, probably with some additions to be announced when the new aircraft are introduced from May, 2009.
Estonian Air will also reportedly sell its subsidaries to retract to its core business.
Also in the air are expectations for a possible merger or cooperation with another carrier to take the 49 percent stake in the shares now held by SAS that has decided to pull out from the airline.
