Mar 12, 2009 (newstodate): Slovak LCC SkyEurope is fighting with financial problems, but new aircraft lease arrangements help the airline improve its situation.
On January 8, 2009, GECAS ordered SkyEurope to return six Boeing 737 NG aircraft after the airline's failure to fullfil the leasing terms, but the carrier is now building up a new portfolio of aircraft on new leasing contracts, including the latest contract with Lithuania's Avia Asset Management Aircraft covering two Boeing 737-500.
Also in the agreement with Avia Asset Management is a provision for delivery of a further two Boeing 737-500 aircraft.
SkyEurope will reportedly take in seven Boeing 737 aircraft within the coming months, and the new leasing contracts are said to be around 50 percent cheaper than the ones they replace
