Mar 11, 2009 (newstodate): Another Russian carrier, KD Avia may have to stop operations and pull out from the market.
The carrier is in dire need of fresh capital, but the bank that is currently in charge of its business has reportedly denied further investments.
The privately-owned carrier KD Avia, based at Kaliningrad, has built up a network comprising routes from Kaliningrad to London, Paris, Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover, Dusseldorf, Munich, Tel Aviv, Barcelona, Prague, Rome, Milan, Vienna, Kiev, Odessa, Moscow, St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Ufa, Nizhniy Novgorod, Omsk, Samara, Perm, Kazan, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, and Astana.
The carrier has ordered up to 50 Airbus A320 to fully replace the ageing Boeing 737 fleet by 2012, and planned to have a total of 60 aircraft by 2016.
Already in December, 2008, KD Avia became unable to repay its debts and applied for state help.
