Feb 4, 2009 (newstodate): Emerging from 2008 with a total net deficit at 6.3 bio Swedish Crowns, SAS will turn to its owners for raising capital.
The governments of the three Scandinavian countries behind SAS have already pledged to jointly inject some six bio Swedish Crowns into an effort through an emission of new shares to save SAS that would otherwise come close to the end of the line.
Voices are, however, heard in the market complaining that this is tantamount to saving the unprofitable carrier through state aid which is detrimental to letting competition rule the market and allow failing airlines to go bankrupt.
