Feb 10, 2009 (newstodate): Russia's charges for flights through Siberian airspace have now been disputed by not only the EU Commission but also from the country's own Federal Antimonopoly Service.
Speaking to correspondents, the agency's director said that a draft decree has been prepared for approval by the Russian government, aiming at abolishing the over-flight dues.
The over-flight charges cost European airlines about 300 mio US dollars each year and have so far restrained their use of the new more economical and environmentally friendly Arctic airlanes.
The dues are collected by Aeroflot that retains a significant share as a subsidy for its own operations.
The EU Commission and Russia have already reached an agreement over the full abolition of the over-flight charges from 2014, but so far the Russian party has declined to ratify the papers.
