Feb 3, 2009 (newstodate): The Russian carrier Polet Airlines is planning for an large expansion of its SAAB fleet of aircraft.
The company is now in discussions with SAAB Aircraft Leasing for the lease of from seven up to 25 SAAB 340 aircraft in 2009.
The aircraft will be used for traffic on short-haul regional routes, and with less than 50 seats the SAAB 340 is excempt from Russian import tax.
Alongside its cargo business, Polet introduced scheculed passenger services from 2003, operating already two SAAB 200 aircraft in addition to eight AN-124-100 Ruslan, and two AN-24 aircraft.
