Feb 18, 2009 (newstodate). On March 6, 2009, Latvia's Riga Airport will announce the winner of the current tender for developing and operating the airport.
Among the runners-up in the final stage are the Turkish company TAV Holding, Germany's Hochtief and a Latvian conglomerate AERIX.
The successful winner will be required to expand the airport from currently 27,000 sq m to 137,000 sq m within a five year period, and will then manage the airport jointly with the Latvian state.
The vision is to develop Riga Airport to handle 25 mio passengers by 2025, compared to 3,690,549 passengers in 2008, which was an increase by 16.8 percent, y-o-y, bringing the airport's share of the total Baltic air passenger market to 49 percent.
